The people of Essex are being asked for their views on how the county should develop in many different aspects of life over the next 20 years.

As part of the review of the Essex and Southend-on-Sea Structure Plan a variety of ideas are being put forward for new homes and jobs, the development of transport, and protection of the environment.

At the same time, public input is being sought on the development of a community strategy by the County Strategic Partnership which consists of the county, district and borough councils, major agencies, and the voluntary and business sector.

The partnership is working on a long-term plan to improve life in Essex and wants to hear about issues affecting people's daily lives.

The six particular themes being looked at are: environment and getting around; having a sense of place and being part of the community; feeling safe; being healthy and having fun; being served well and fairly, and being able to take up opportunities.

Launching both consultations at Anglia Polytechnic University last Thursday, Cllr Stephen Castle, chairman of the County Strategic Partnership, said: "This is relevant to every age group in this county and every geographical location in the county. This is about building and planning for the Essex of the future - not just for the next few years but for decades to come.

The deadline for consultations is March 31. Consultation documents can be obtained free by telephoning 01245 437526.
