Cannabis found by police in a car led to two young men facing court for their first time.

Roger Davis, 23, of Springfield Park Avenue, Chelmsford admitted supplying cannabis and cocaine to friends. He received 150 hours community punishment.

A 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted supplying cannabis. He received one year community rehabilitation.

Emma King, prosecuting at Chelmsford Crown Court on Monday, said police stopped a car driven by Davis in Chelmsford on June 1. The teenager was a passenger. A bag in the passenger seat contained herbal cannabis.

Police found more cannabis at Davis' home and a list of names, numbers and prices.

Davis admitted to police that he supplied cannabis over a six month period about five years ago and the dealers list related to that. The youth said the cannabis in the car belonged to him. He intended using some himself and sell some to friends.

Mark Roochove, mitigating, said both defendants regretted their mistakes and were ashamed of appearing in court.

Judge David Pearl warned the pair they could go to prison if they committed similar offences again.
