A lorry driver has died in a road accident on the A120 Braintree bypass near Freeport.
A 47-year-old man, of Rayleigh, died after the articulated lorry he was driving crossed the central reservation and overturned, landing on the Dunmow-bound track of the bypass.
The driver was certified dead at the scene. A female passenger was released from the lorry and taken to Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford.
Fire engines from Braintree and Colchester attended the accident as well as police investigators and an ambulance.
Both the man and woman were trapped in the cab and had to be freed. The lorry, which was carrying coal, overturned at about 8.15pm yesterday.
