A £2.5 million bowling complex is set to open within weeks - creating 40 jobs in Braintree.

The centre, with 26 bowling lanes, will open next to the new cinema at the Freeport leisure development in February.

The Number Ten bowling complex will be the latest leisure facility to open its doors at the site.

The 12-screen cinema opened in November and last week outline planning permission was given for a swimming complex nearby along Millennium Way.

Number Ten will open seven days a week and and is expected to attract 420,000 people in its first year.

David Mann, Braintree Council's executive member for employment and development, welcomed the news.

Mr Mann said: "A bowling alley has long featured high on the wish list of young people in Braintree, not very far behind a new cinema.

"A large-scale facility like this will benefit the Braintree district as a whole, bringing not only the 40 new jobs but also offering another strand to the broadening leisure mix, which is increasingly available to local residents."
