Firefighters were called out to tackle a blaze which could have been started deliberately at Chelmsford Prison.
The fire broke out in a ground floor cell in C Block at the Springfield Road prison just after 4.30pm yesterday.
Firefighters took about 20 minutes to put the fire out and used one hose reel and two breathing apparatus.
