Major drainage work is set to take place on one of Canvey's residential roads that has been badly affected by flooding, it has been revealed.
People livingin Urmond Road have reported flooding on numerous occasions, claiming that the problem has continued despite work carried out by Castle Point Council.
Nigel Thomas, Castle Point's director of technical services, speaking at Canvey West's area forum meeting last night, said Essex County Council had promised cash for surface water drainage works in Urmond Road.
Canvey West councillor Ray Howard, said the flooding had got worse because the council had to remove two drains in the road on the request of Anglian Water which said they were affectingits own foul drainage and pipe system.
He said: "The removal of the two drains seems to have made the flooding worse as there is less space for the surface water to run to.
"A scheme of major drainage work has been put forward and hopefully it will alleviate some of the problem."
Mr Howard added that one of the possibilities the council were looking into was pumping the surface water from Urmond Road, through Waarden Road and Thisselt Road, into Canvey Lake.
