Tory MP Bob Spink today launched a last-minute push to secure Southend Hospital's new diagnostic and treatment centre for Castle Point.
None of the four possible sites under consideration falls into his constituency, but Mr Spink is hoping the powers-that-be will have an 11th-hour change of heart.
The proposed centre is part of a £100million redevelopment of hospital services.
