Two security guards have been suspended after thieves looted and vandalised a Laindon hairdressing salon during a 40-minute rampage.

James Andrew Facility Services, which manages the officers, confirmed an investigation was under way into allegations that "certain duties had not been carried out".

It came after Headquarters hairdressers, in the Laindon shopping centre, was targeted by vandals who stole everything, including the till, scissors, pens and a pay phone.

Salon manager Steve Kaye said the store has remained open for business since the theft, in the early hours of Sunday, but has been double-booking appointments because the thieves also stole the salon's diary.

John Podmore, a spokesman for Kenningtons, the managing agents of the centre, confirmed security guards had been suspended.
