An elderly woman needed emergency surgery after suffering knife wounds.
The woman, who is in her 70s, was rushed to hospital by ambulance late last night suffering serious knife wounds following an incident in her Colchester home
Colchester police were called to the house in Warwick Bailey Close off Bergholt Road at 10.15pm yesterday.
She was found with three wounds in her torso.
The woman was taken to Colchester General Hospital where doctors performed an emergency operation.
Her condition was today described as poorly but stable.
A 34-year-old man has been arrested following the incident and taken to Colchester Police Station.
He is currently being assessed to decide whether he is mentally fit to be questioned in relation to the offence.
If it is decided he is not fit to be questioned in the usual way he will be dealt with under the Mental Health Act.
