New arrival Les Ferdinand goes straight into West Ham's squad for tonight's game against Charlton after completing his transfer from Spurs yesterday.
The 36-year-old striker has signed up until the end of the season and will be pitching into the kind of relegation battle he has not faced since his QPR days.
But after a day training with his new team-mates he insisted he was ready for the dogfight.
"I could have taken an easy option, and there were other sides that came in for me not facing relegation," he said.
"But I have seen the quality in this side having seen this side play and the fight that they have got.
"I felt it would suit me the way I play football and that it would be good to try and help."
