Hundreds turned out to pay tribute to a beloved former headteacher at a memorial service to give thanks for her life.
Around 350 children and adults made their way to Chelmsford Cathedral to remember Cyndy Batty, who was head of South Benfleet Primary School for 18 years.
The 54-year-old died unexpectedly last year of the blood disorder amaloidoisis.
Acting school head Dominic Carver, Castle Point MP Bob Spink and the borough's mayor Charles Smith attended the service, which was led by former Benfleet Methodist minister Bob Richards.
Mr Spink and Mr Richards spoke of their happy memories of Miss Batty.
Mr Carver said later: "Everyone remembered Miss Batty for her love of pink and her friendliness.
"She loved life and she was also very professional. She had a very strong character and fought for the school.
"She was behind the decision when the school became grant-maintained in 1993 because she thought it would be better for the children if the head and the governors had more control.
"She loved animals and travel and used to lead pupil trips to Holland."
Miss Batty, who lived in Billericay, died just six weeks after becoming terminally ill and passed away at St Luke's Hospice, Basildon.
