Soldiers from Colchester-based 3 Para were told yesterday they will be joining others from town-based 16 Air Assault Brigade in preparation for action against Iraq.

But today they will be fighting another battle as they provide cover in the latest one-day walk-out by firefighters.
Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon has announced that 5,500 troops from the rapid reaction force 16 Air Assault Brigade will be joining the British force of 26,000 heading for the Gulf.
This includes 3,000 soldiers from Colchester Garrison, including signallers, military police and medics.
The deployment is the largest movement of British troops since the Gulf War in 1991.
Mr Hoon insisted a decision on using force was not "imminent or inevitable".
Shadow Defence Minister and North Essex MP Bernard Jenkin said he was appalled 3 Para were still on firefighting duties when they could be training or preparing to leave.
Colchester's MP Bob Russell said: "Colchester barracks will be virtually deserted.
"I detect no enthusiasm amongst the civilian population of Colchester."
