Basildon and East Thurrock MP Angela Smith has launched the new Essex Youth Mentoring Service, a project for young women in Basildon.
The service, funded by the Community Fund from the National Lottery, will allocate mentors to young women in need across the district.

It is based in Luncies Road, Basildon, and is an extension of the Carli Project, which has helped young women with emotional problems for more than 20 years.
Mrs Smith said: "The project is about positive action and not just words.
"It is vital to help the development of young women in our area and to ensure they play a full part in our community."
If you would like more information about the project, or would like to volunteer to train as a mentor, contact Odette Helman or Julie Sanford on 01268 555 244.
