Campaigners are calling for volunteers to start an action group for pensioners in Witham.
Leaders of the thriving Braintree branch of the Pensioners' Action Group are urging retired people in Witham to come forward and set up a similar group to fight for pensioners' rights.
It would also provide a wide variety of social events for its members.
Phyllis Webb, Braintree branch chairman, said: "We are confident we can do it, as long as we can find people prepared to take on the posts of chair, secretary and treasurer.
"We will help them to set it up. There is a lot of help with funding on offer as well.
"We really do need a group in Witham because it is too far for elderly people to come to Braintree and they are really missing out on information, benefits and the social side."
Anyone who feels they could help to get a Witham group off the ground should contact Mrs Webb on 01376 322065
