A second bid to build a Tesco store in a residential road is set to meet a new wave of objections.
An application to build a Tesco Express store on the corner of Maldon Road and Drury Road, Colchester, has been fiercely fought since last June, when it emerged that the supermarket giant had paid £1 million for the former garage site.
The first application was withdrawn on the day it was due to go before the planning committee with a recommendation for refusal.
The second application was put forward in August and members of Colchester Council planning committee are now set to consider it on Thursday.
Planning officers have been bombarded with objections to the development. They have received 130 letters from residents, a 947-signature petition and objections from Ireton Road Residents Association, Colchester and East Essex Co-operative Society and the Colchester Civic Society.
They have again recommended the application is refused. In a report to councillors, planning officer Richard Button said: "The current proposal is almost identical to the previous scheme."
