A family have today spoken of the "absolute nightmare" they have endured after their house flooded for the fourth time.

Mick Peach and his family have had to move out of their house again after a burst water main flooded their home with more than a foot of water.

Mr Peach said: "This has been a nightmare we have had to face ever since we moved in. We are so nervous all of the time because it is not a matter of if the house is going to be flooded again, but when.

"It affects my business and my children's education and we all suffer very badly."

The current flood and two of the previous floods were caused by burst pipes or mains and Essex and Suffolk Water have admitted responsibility.

Mr Peach said: "Before, the water company has paid for alternative accommodation, but this time they have refused, saying that the house is occupiable.

A spokeswoman for Essex and Suffolk Water said: "A burst did occur this week on a main pipe on the Southend arterial road. We have done all we can to assist the customers at this property to ensure it is habitable and are looking at ways to reduce the risk of further bursts."
