Arsonists are believed to be to blame for a blaze which destroyed a £16,000 caravan on one of Clacton's leading holiday parks
Two crews of firefighters from the town's station tackled the flames which almost spread to a neighbouring unit at the Highfield Holiday Park site in London Road.
There was also a danger of a explosion from liquified petroleum gas cannisters.
Firefighter Stephen Hart said the gas was connected up and it presented another problem for the crews.
"It was a potentially very dangerous situation," he added.
"We used four hose reels to bring it under control and the caravan was well alight when we arrived with the flames going up into the sky."
Firefighter Hart said that the caravan, which was not occupied at the time, was totally destroyed in the blaze.
The neighbouring unit was partially melted from the heat.
Clacton police are investigating the fire, which is being treated as suspicious.
