A major scheme to save wildlife habitats in Walton Backwaters looks set to get the go-ahead despite objections.
The Environment Agency has put the work forward as part of its efforts to provide sustainable flood defences for the Essex Coast.
The aim of the project is to protect part of Horsey Island from the sea and will be carried out in three phases.
Tendring councillors are due to discuss the proposal on Wednesday, but are expected to give it the green light.
The site is within a special environment area part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Protection Area.
Council officers believe the scheme merits support and should be approved.
The Environment Agency believes that if no efforts are carried out to maintain or improve the seawall along the northern shore of Horsey Island, it is likely the wall will be overtopped within the next few years.
