A mobile paramedic could soon be boosting health services in the Uttlesford area.
The appointment has been identified as a "high priority" by Uttlesford Primary Care Trust, and depending on the availability of funding the paramedic could be on the road later this year, with Dunmow being considered as an initial location.
The service will cost the trust £50,000 a year, compared with up to £350,000 for a fully crewed ambulance.
Dunmow Town Council is investigating sponsorship of the car through a local dealer, and the appointment also has the backing of Uttlesford District Council and Saffron Walden Town Council.
The paramedic could be based in a clinic or surgery, working with GP's and nurses, and would also have an educative role, visiting local organisations and schools.
The trust's health improvement manager, Dale Atkins, said: "We regard this as a high priority, and it clearly has the support of the Uttlesford community."
