A council has promised to look at improving lighting and drainage in the area surrounding the skateboard park in Lake Meadows after a man was mugged in the area.
The man, who has asked not to be named, and his wife called on Billericay Town Council to install improved anti-crime measures in the town.
They want more lighting and CCTV cameras to be installed.
Council chairman Trevor Stansfield agreed to investigate the possibility of such measures at a meeting he had arranged with the police.
He said: "The police will meet with the council to discuss the needs of policing in Billericay and to see if there is anything we can do to help. I have been approached by a number of shopkeepers asking for CCTV to be installed. We will need to see how effective it is."
