Plans to give the centre of old Harwich its first cash machine have hit an unusual snag - its streets are in the wrong place.
Months have been spent looking for a suitable site for a hole-in-the-wall for the historic town.
But a major obstacle has been found - the actual shape of the town.
Talks are still continuing to try and find a spot for a machine in the town and various sites have been mentioned. But so far nothing has been agreed.
Tony Whitmarsh, Harwich town centre manager, told the Harwich Consortium that one problem was the levels of the floor in old Harwich were different to most other areas, so they were not at the right level for an ATM machine.
It was hoped to have it outside the post office in Church Street.
However, that seems to have fallen through and the only other option there would be to have it inside, which would only be available during office hours.
