Heybridge has become a global centre for marine marketing and technology - thanks to two Maldon-based entrepreneurs.

John Almond and David Pickles, both retired executives of the worldwide Smith's Industries Marine Division and both living in Maldon, have launched their new consultancy firm Marine Partners in a unit at the Heybridge Centre in The Street.

The company - already providing marketing, business development and technical support for the shipping industry - all over the world is to be officially launched by Maurice Storey, chief executive of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

Mr Storey will launch Marine Partners at a reception in Maldon Town Hall at noon on January 24.

The company, which serves shipping of every kind from luxury cruise liners and mega-yachts to oil tankers, also specialises in the design of ships' bridges.

Its most recent contract was a dry docking exercise in Shanghai, China.

Articles produced by Marine Partners experts include work for the Royal Institute of Naval Architects. They also conduct masterclasses for shipbuilders wishing to export.
