Building work at Colchester police station has been put back.
The changes, which will benefit visitors with disabilities, are now expected to start on Mondayand go on until late April.
People who need to use the station will have to go in through a fire exit at the Butt Road side of the building, which is getting automatic doors at the front.
Drivers will also face disruption as the small car park outside the station is going to be out of action.
The work was due to start on January 6 but Divisional Administration Manager Paul Gibson explained that the funding for the project was not finalised in time.
The reception is being ripped out so new automatic sliding doors can be fitted, along with better lighting and flooring.
A lower counter plus seating for staff and visitors is also being put in to make it easier for wheelchair users to talk to the officers on reception.
