Police are appealing for witnesses after a road rage incident during which, a man was assaulted and left with a fractured spine.
A 34-year-old man from the Maldon area was arrested on New Year's Eve on suspicion of the assault and was bailed while police make further inquiries.
Now Maldon police are now launching an appeal for more witnesses to contact them.
The victim, who was driving a maroon Ford Focus, was attacked in St Nicholas Road in Tillingham at about 11pm on Thursday December 19 following a minor collision between two cars.
A light blue Peugeot 405 was travelling in the opposite direction down the narrow road and as they passed each other their wing mirrors clipped.
Following the collision the passenger in the Peugeot 405 taxi from Bay Cars Taxis assaulted the other driver, who is 56, and also from the Maldon area.
The man was taken to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford but was released before Christmas with a fractured spine.
The taxi driver was in no way involved.
Crime reduction officer, Ray Stannard, from Maldon police station said: "St Nicholas Road is not a very busy road but we are led to believe people were around at the time. We would appeal for any witnesses to come forward."
Anyone with information should call Dc Paul Ritson at South Woodham Ferrers on 01621 852255.
