A sports facility costing nearly £60,000 could be opening in a Colchester village by summer.
Work on the all-weather pitch next to the Lorkin Daniel Playing Field in Lexden Road, West Bergholt, could be underway by the end of the month.
The pitch has been a labour of love for the West Bergholt Millennium Club for more than three years.
Chairman Joe Austin said: "We are just finalising details. We are hoping to tidy everything up next week and then get on with it."
A total of £54,730 has been pledged towards the cost of building the multi-use site which will be used for tennis, football and netball.
Those pledging cash include Essex County Council, Colchester Council and West Bergholt Parish Council as well as the millennium club itself which raised money by selling millennium mugs and collecting donations.
