Halstead Town's aim to give more threat up front was not fulfilled last night as they failed to find the back of the net and were subsequently dumped out of the East Anglian Cup at the second round stage.

Despite new boy Dave Kenyon from Stanway making his debut in attack, Town simply couldn't find the killer blow.

Their cause was not helped when influential midfielder Matt Hearn was taken off with an injured ankle, the youngster could miss out for Saturday's match at Cambridge.

Town kept possession, however, and forced several corners but were unable to threaten.

Cornard's Robert Ford bagged the chance to head into the next round ten minutes before time.

Halstead assistant manager Andy Clark told the Evening Gazette: "It was good to get a game and we played quite well, but we just didn't hit the target again."
