A row over a broken fuse has plunged a street into darkness - and led to a mini crimewave, angry residents said today.
Since the lights went out six weeks ago in Beambridge, Pitsea, petty criminals have waged war on families.
Basildon Council admitted a dispute over who should replace the fuse left the area in darkness.
"Yobs have been given a charter to do what they want, " said one resident.
