All possible security arrangements have been put in place in a bid to protect staff at Clacton Town Hall from angry residents
That's the message of Tendring Council chief executive John Hawkins following a call for an investigation after an employee was verbally abused by a member of the public.
The incident happened in the housing services department in November.
Councillor Roy Smith, who witnessed the incident, demanded a check on the safety of town hall staff in an effort to improve the situation.
He said he had seen similar incidents and one woman had been attacked physically, resulting in several weeks off work.
Mr Smith asked Mr Hawkins to carry out an investigation into the matter. He has received a reply from the chief executive but no further action is to be taken.
Mr Hawkins said he had looked into the matter and confirmed it occurred in the housing services department.
"Regrettably, a young man disagreed with the decision he was given by a member of housing services staff and he became difficult and abusive.
"I am satisfied that robust risk assessments for this work are in place and that as far as we are able, given the fact the town hall is a listed building, we have done everything possible to improve the safety of the reception area."
