The veteran left-winger addressed a packed meeting of the Southend Stop the War Coalition at the Labour Hall, in Cambridge Road, before giving a speech at the Cliffs Pavilion in Westcliff.
He spoke of his own fears about British involvement in a war with Iraq and other Middle East issues.
