Major drain repair work is needed to help solve the problem of flooding on one of Canvey's main roads, it was revealed today.
Residents living in Furtherwick Road have complained of flooding - particularly near Labworth car park and the junction of Western Esplanade.
Canvey East councillor Lionel Hart said there had been problems throughout Canvey, but that it was worse in Furtherwick Road where it kept re-occurring.
Dave Edwards, principal engineer at Castle Point Council, said: "We act as agents for Essex County Council which is the Highway Authority and we will be making a bid to them for funding for the drain repair work that is necessary.
"What we need to do is to put in a new system and find a new outlet for the water and we will be working closely with the Environment Agency to do this."
The issue is set to be discussed at the Canvey East area forum meeting which is taking place at 7.30pm tomorrow at the Furtherwick Park School's drama studio, in Furtherwick Road, Canvey.
