Burglars broke into a disabled man's home, threw a sheet over his head, held a knife to this throat and robbed him of £100.
He was watching TV at his home in Moss Close, Pitsea, when two men came from behind and threatened the 45-year-old before throwing a white sheet over his head.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the "callous" attack.
The man had a weapon held to his neck, which is believed to be a knife.
He couldn't see his attackers after the sheet went over his head, but he said one of the men had a deep voice with a south Essex accent.
Anyone with information should call Pitsea CID on 01268 532212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
