A scheme to develop more than 30 new homes on a former school site looks set to get the all-clear.

Detailed plans are due to go before Tendring councillors - but the residential use of the land in St Osyth has already been agreed in principle.

It is part of a multi-million pound project for the site of the Priory Meadow School which was closed down by Essex County Council more than ten years ago.

A number of proposals have been put forward since then but nothing was finalised until the current scheme was tied up last February.

It includes new houses, low-cost homes, community facilities and an open space to be run by St Osyth Parish Council.

Colne Housing is building nine affordable properties on part of the 3.6-acre site and they should be ready by the end of March.

St Osyth Almshouse Charity is also putting up five homes and developers RK Construction have now submitted the plans for 34 new houses on the 1.54 acres it bought for £1.17million in October.

The land has outline consent for a minimum of 20 properties and is the final part of the project.

Michael Talbot, chairman of St Osyth Parish Council, said the proposal had already been discussed at a meeting and parish councillors did not object to it.

The detailed scheme is expected to be decided by Tendring councillors on January 22.
