Henning Bager, a 21-year-old Dane, is the latest recruit to the Arena Essex side for the 2003 season.
Co-promoter Ronnie Russell believes he can play a key role in the Hammers' push for honours this year.
"He earned a 6.25 average for the Isle of Wight last year and I'd be happy if he can maintain that figure," he said.
Henning first rode in Britain in 2001 when he was a member of the Glasgow Tigers Premier League side and was signed by Elite League Peterborough the following year.
After struggling with the Panthers he dropped back to the Premier League, helping the Islanders to runners-up spot in the league.
He also came third in the 2002 Danish Junior Championships after a run-off with Newcastle's Kenneth Bjerre.
The Dane is joined by a Finn, Joonas Kylmakorpi, and an Australian -- Lee Herne -- while Dutch rider Maik Groen is expected to formally complete his 2003 contract within the next fortnight.
