Two more £1million medical centres are needed on Canvey to help attract new doctors to the island, it was claimed today.
Castle Point MP Bob Spink has spoken out about a "big problem" of recruiting doctors on the island and said the issue would need to be addressed.
Mr Spink said £1million Healthy Living Centres, like the one soon to be created at the Paddocks in Long Road, Canvey, were the way forward. He told how the centre would offer doctors an exciting new place to work in while presenting good career opportunities.
He said: "This is exactly what Castle Point needs as doctors will get opportunities they would not get in smaller GP practices.
"However, we must not centralise the healthcare on Canvey and restrict it only to the Paddocks as there is a need for a further two such medical centres of excellence on the east and north sides of the island."
Canvey's Healthy Living Centre will offer help and advice to Castle Point residents on better lifestyles and a range of facilities when it comes to life later this year.
