Plans to extend a motor accessory shop in Rayleigh have been rejected by Rochford District Council.

The scheme for the shop on London Road would also have involved building a new flat above the extension.

Council head of planning Shaun Scrutton said the proposed roof would be an obtrusive element in the street scene.

In addition, the proposed parking for the new shop and flat above was short of the minimum space dimensions required and would be unusable.
