Castle Point MP Bob Spink has taken the battle against prostate cancer to the House of Commons.

The Tory MP has called for action in the fight against a disease which threatens thousands of men every year.

Mr Spink said: "Prostate cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death in men and one in 13 will develop the disease during their lifetime."

And he condemned Britain's survival rate when comparing it to the rest of the world.

The MP said: "The five-year survival rate in the UK is forty-five per cent, whereas in the United States it is 80 per cent.

"It is also higher than the UK in many other European countries."

In a series of questions to the Secretary of State for Health, Alan Milburn, Mr Spink urged that the public's awareness of prostate cancer be raised.
