Major suggestions for future development are being put to Essex residents by the county council and Southend-on-Sea unitary authority.

They are in a review of the county's structure plan which covers just about every aspect of life in Essex, including the number of homes and jobs needed over the next 20 years, the development of transport, and protection of the environment.

At the same time, the County Strategic Partnership, consisting of the county council, district and borough councils, major county agencies and the voluntary and business sector, is working on a long term plan to improve life in Essex, and wants to hear about issues concerning residents.

The partnership is concentrating on six themes, environment and getting around, being part of the community, feeling safe, being healthy and having fun, being served well and fairly, and being able to take up opportunities.

Cllr Stephen Castle, chairman of the County Strategic Partnership, said, "Essex and Southend are likely to face some major challenges over the next 20 years, with both the population and the economy growing significantly, so it is important we understand people's views and manage growth in a way which benefits everyone."

The deadline for consultations is March 31, 2003.

Documents, including a questionnaire, are available free by telephoning 01245 435779. They can also be consulted in county libraries.
