Plant some lasting roots on Canvey, islanders are being urged.
They are being invited to sponsor trees in a new patch of woodland being developed along the edge of the Canvey Heights Country Park - formerly Newlands amenity site.

Dave Blackwell, Castle Point Council's lead member for sport, leisure and conservation, made the suggestion after councillors agreed to incorporate a four-acre patch of public open space into the park.
He said: "This would be the first ever woodland on Canvey and there is space for 300 to 400 native British trees, like silver birches.
"This could help turn it into a mini nature reserve and it would be a chance for people to create a bit of history."
Anyone interested in sponsoring a tree at £20 a time is asked to write to Castle Point Council Offices, Kiln Road, Thundersley, SS7 1TF.
