Crime-busting security cameras in the Braintree district are to come under scrutiny in a review to see if the scheme can be improved.
Braintree Council aims to produce a plan looking at where CCTV cameras are and how many they have, what is likely to be needed in the future and to make sure cash invested in security cameras is used effectively.
The issue was raised at a council scrutiny meeting last night for panel members to discuss the 2003/4 budget.
The panel asked council leader Ian Pointon (Lab, Witham North) what the authority's approach to community safety was and what money was being put into it.
Mr Pointon replied the council was not earmarking funding for CCTV and, at this stage, it was taking stock.
But he said officers would be asked to form a co-ordinated strategy.
