A lacklustre Chieftains were made to battle before seeing off a plucky Nottingham side on Sunday.
On a power play at 3.05, Kyle Amyotte laid a pass across the Ice for Jon Beckett to shoot home.
The Lions fought back and on a Lions power play, they ripped apart the Chieftains defence with some slick passing and a fine slap shot at 7.54.
Slack defence by the Chieftains allowed the Lions to go ahead on 22.21 with a goal by Stuart Brittle, Andy Power equalised on 27.49 with some deft stick handling and a hard low shot.
The Chieftains started to play and Ross Jones finished a smart Amyotte/Power move.
A disallowed goal for the Chieftains on 36.41 unsettled them and the Lions equalised again on 36.53 with a lucky deflection.
Back came the Chieftains and on another power play on 45.14 Amyotte scored after some neat work by Power and Jon Beckett.
The Chieftains were in total control, but were still lethargic and were punished for slack defence when a breakaway by Chris Markham was converted with a deflection by Jon Woolhouse on 50.00.
The Chieftains eventually put the game beyond doubt with goals on 52.25, 52.38 and 59.02, Power, Beckett and a trade mark blast by Danny Wright finished the evening.
