Police today warned of the dangers of throwing snowballs at bus windows after a boy was showered with glass and taken to hospital.

The boy suffered minor injuries when a lump of ice was thrown by another boy at a First bus in Braintree Market Place.

In a separate incident, a snowball was thrown at a Brandon coach picking up children at Tabor High School, Panfield Lane, Braintree, at 3.30pm.

Children were on board at the time but, luckily, the damaged window stayed in place.

A police spokesman today warned these actions could be potentially fatal for passengers or drivers.

He said: "It is obviously a clearly dangerous practice to throw things at any moving vehicle. Consequences could be more far reaching than smashing a window potentially it could cause a fatal issue."

Sue Seago, a director of Brandon coaches, which was operating the service, condemned the "stupidity" of the action.

Colin Riches, spokesman for First, said: "The message is never, ever throw anything at buses."
