Weather forecasters today predicted a quick end to the Siberian conditions which caused chaos across south Essex.
More than three inches of snow fell on the area in just a few hours, closing roads and leaving motorists trapped in jams which lasted most of yesterday.

A drop in temperatures overnight has left deadly patches of black ice on the roads.
Rayleigh traffic officers warned drivers not to think the roads were back to normal.
The Met Office said temperatures would rise gradually, although there would still be overnight frosts, with much milder weather reaching south Essex by Sunday.
