It could be two months before the future of a former cinema is decided.
The old Odeon building has remained unused since the cinema opened in its new home, the former post office in Head Street, Colchester.
Steve Peri, owner of the Crouch Street site, said work had been started to clear the building but no decision had been taken on its use.
Mr Peri said: "We haven't decided yet. We've started work on it, clearing the site and are currently making up plans.
"But we've got a lot of work to do and won't have decided until we've finished the plans, which should be a couple of months."
He added he would not be applying for planning permission to change the buildings use and that he intended to keep it in an entertainment use.
