City Tigers got the new year of to a flying start with a convincing 6-1 win over Wathamstow' s Puma 2000 on Sunday.
Both teams got off to a slow start after the Christmas break and Chelmsford's nerves were settled when Francessca Babet pounced on a loose ball in the 18 yard box slipping it past the keeper to put City ahead after just ten minutes.
In the 25th minutes Katie Houghton made a excellent run down the right wing sliding a perfect pass through to Jennifer Kerwood who scored with a clever lob of the keeper from a very tight angle.
Chelmsford were then awarded a free kick on the edge of the 18 yard box, from which Lisa Nepean scored a third that David Beckham would have been proud of, curling the ball round the wall into the back of the net.
Before the end of the first half, City extended their lead, netting a 4th when Babet doubled her personal tally.
Puma 2000 started the second half much brighter pinning Chelmsford in their own half missing a number of chances.
City fought back breaking out several times and one such counter-attack gave Joanna Hargreaves the chance to put her name on the score sheet when she found herself almost on the goal line netting with a well struck shot from an unbelievably tight angle.
Chelmsford finished off the afternoon with more pressure and when the home keeper was unable to keep hold of powerful shot, Sarah Jolly snapped up the spilt ball to stretch the score to 6-0
However Puma were not ready to give up and with one more effort they scored a consolation goal in the last minutes of the game.
