A grateful road accident survivor today praised the Good Samaritans who raced to help when she was trapped in her car.
Brenda Phelps, of Woodside Park, Leigh, was caught in an early morning smash on Bread and Cheese Hill, Benfleet, as she drove to work at GMTV, in London.
Husband Reg said: "My wife just touched the brakes after the car in front braked and the next thing she knew she was off the road."
The BMW Mrs Phelps was driving was written off after it hit some wooden railings and she was trapped in the vehicle.
Mr Phelps said: "My wife wanted to thank the young men who stopped to help her. They were tremendous.
"They broke the car window to try to get her out and called the police and ambulance service. She had nothing but praise for those who stopped and the emergency services."
