The freezing temperatures may have put off some of their friends in other zoos but the animals at the Colchester attraction are taking it in their stride.
Humboldt penguins in Chester Zoo stayed indoors but in Colchester it was only the babies, still in their nesting boxes, who refused to come out and play for visitors brave enough to make it along to the Maldon Road zoo.
Sacha the tiger
Spokeswoman Alex Burr said the humboldt penguins there were used to colder temperatures and were still coming out for the visitors.
And she said siberian tiger Sacha is enjoying an unexpected reminder of his homeland.
"Snow is something he would have been used to in his natural habitat so he is probably loving it," she said
