Work to dual the A120 between Braintree and Stansted Airport is still on track despite the recent heavy rain.
Most major bridge and earth works were completed before the worst of the winter weather set in and most of this year will be spent laying road surfaces and landscaping.
Building work recommenced on Monday after breaking for Christmas and the New Year on December 20.
A spokesman for contractor Balfour Beatty said the company was still confident of completing the road by the target date of January next year
He added: "The heavy rain is not really a problem because we expect that in the winter."
