A digger operator has been banned for three years for drink-driving, a court heard.
Peter Guyton, 36, of Sunbeam Avenue, Jaywick, admitted the offence before Colchester magistrates yesterday.
Thomas John, prosecuting, said Guyton was stopped by police after driving out of the car park at the Three Jays pub in Jaywick Lane, Jaywick, on November 9.
A breath test revealed he had 59mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.
Representing himself, Guyton said: "I didn't want my car left in Jaywick there are cars being set on fire. I took the risk of driving and I shouldn't have."
Magistrates ordered Guyton complete an 18-month community rehabilitation order, during which he must attend a drink-drivers' programme.
He was also told to complete 70 hours community service.
