Basildon is to have the Union Flag flying over its council offices every working day from today.
The Conservative administration decided to get the flag flying on the offices in St Martin's Square to inspire patriotism in its residents.
Council leader Malcolm Buckley said: "Local residents should be proud of their country and its flag. Flying the Union Flag is symbolic of the patriotism of Basildon people and we should be glad to see it flying on public buildings."
