Marc Chandler was the hero as Thurrock surged back from 14-6 down to KO fellow strugglers Twickenham.
Chandler scored two tries and Dave Stevens one as Tees left it late to secure victory at Oakfield.
First-team manager Kevin Hymas said: "Mark was outstanding, especially in the final quarter. His energy and tackling were outstanding and this proved a catalyst for us to take a much-needed home victory."
Despite two Wayne Tredwell penalties, Thurrock had a disappointing first half and trailed well into the second period after Twickenham were granted a controversial penalty try.
But they came good in the end to vault over Ipswich and into tenth spot in London Two.
